Wine Pairings

Which wine pairs best with which steak? With tamales?

STEAKS

Robert Mondavi 2004 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. The very best steak (and we all know that means Filet Mignon) calls for the very best wine. We think a Wine Spectator 95 point wine qualifies as the "very best." And 95 points is what the Wine Spectator gave to the Mondavi 2004 Reserve Cab. Here's what they said "Weaves together a complex array of ripe, rich currant, anise, smoky oak and black cherry. Dense, concentrated and persistent, with great depth and focus. Ends with an amazingly long, richly flavored finish. Best from 2008 through 2018." This is one amazing bottle.

SMOKED SAUSAGE

Smoked Sausage. Not too spicy, yet full of flavor. And the wine to match? A zinfandel, of course. Slightly peppery with that typical red Zinfandel berry flavor. And the ideal choice for a weekday supper or a casual cookout? Try the Ravenswood Zen of Zin. Ravenswood is a Zin Master. The Zen of Zin offers blackberry and cherry aromas and flavors with just a touch of cedar and spice. Nice price too!

SMOKED TURKEY

If you wondered why we also sell white wines for our steaks, well, we also sell a simply delicious Smoked Whole Turkey. And simply delicious is what we call our zingy Drylands Sauvignon Blanc 2007. It's from New Zealand, and this is a rich, intensely bright wine with hints of citrus, herbs, and passion fruit. It's a "Best Buy" from the Wine Enthusiast and rated 91 points.

TENDERLOIN TAMALES

Wine with Tamales? If it's our Gewurztraminer from Ravenswood, a wine with a spicy taste and a slightly sweet finish, it's heavenly perfection with our Tamales. This white wine is known for pairing beautifully with aromatic and spicy foods. You don't need to know how to pronounce it to say "pour me another glass, please."
